WASHINGTON, Jan. 17 — Rep. Steve Rothman, D-N.J. (9th CD), issued the following news release: Congressman Steve Rothman (NJ-9) is pleased that this year all Social Security recipients will receive more money in their pockets because Social Security checks have been increased by a 3.6% cost of living adjustment (COLA) and Medicare premiums have increased much less than initially predicted.
"This year, seniors have not only received an average increase in Social Security benefits of $39 a month, a 3.6% cost of living adjustment (COLA), but they are getting more bang for their buck with their health care expenses. During these tough economic times it is more important than ever to ensure that our nation's seniors have more money to live on," said Congressman Rothman. "I am very pleased that in 2012 our seniors have finally received an increase in the dollar amount of their Social Security checks. The change in Medicare premiums for this year is proof that health care reform is working and benefiting our seniors."
