BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ Regions Financial Corp. (RF) on Tuesday reported first-quarter net income of $301 million.
The bank, based in Birmingham, Alabama, said it had earnings of 23 cents per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 26 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 22 cents per share.
The holding company for Regions Bank posted revenue of $1.48 billion in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $1.37 billion, missing Street forecasts. Twenty-three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.39 billion.
Regions Financial shares have fallen almost 3 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has increased roughly 5 percent. The stock has climbed 65 percent in the last 12 months.
