Life insurance sales haven’t been great lately — policy count has declined in six of the last 10 years, according to LIMRA. However, index universal life (IUL) has proven to be a bright spot for producers.
Among life insurance products, IUL experienced the strongest growth in absolute dollars in 2014. IUL premium grew 23 percent last year — 36 percent in the fourth quarter alone. It now represents the majority of all universal life premium (52 percent) and 20 percent of all individual life premium, according to LIMRA.
However, many producers are still unsure about the best ways to sell IUL. Few have the experience or training necessary to properly position IUL products for their customers.
