AUSTIN, TX – March 4, 2015 – During 2015, The National Alliance announced today that the Certified Risk Managers Program (CRM) is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of its founding.
There is much to celebrate about CRM’s first two decades since its beginning:
• 1995–The CRM program is founded and curricula development begins.
• 1997–The first classes are conducted and initial CRM designations awarded.
• 2003–Cooperative efforts with Appalachian State, Florida State, Mississippi State and the University of New Orleans begin to bring CRM course materials to their institutions, accepting student coursework toward the designation.
• 2004–The 1000th CRM designee is conferred.
• 2006–After several years of research and development, the first CRMI (International) course is delivered in Mexico.
• 2010–The University Associates CRM program is formally initiated, providing students the opportunity to earn two parts of the designation while attending classes during their education. Currently 9 colleges and universities participate.<br /> • 2011–The first CRM online classroom program was launched.
• 2014–The Distinguished Faculty Member Award was granted to Bettye D. Buffington, CIC, CRM, CPCU, ARM, CPIA, AAI
• 2015–As of February, 3,761 individuals have earned the CRM designation nationally, and 107 internationally

Throughout its history, CRM has continued to be committed to raising the level of awareness and planning for recognized, and often unrecognized, risks and exposures.
Candidates for the prestigious CRM designation complete five intensive courses that guide them through the risk management process—emphasizing practice over theory, followed by five rigorous examinations. Classes and online courses include:
